BCG Nagoya was founded in October 2003 as the firm's second office in Japan. The office is conveniently located in the Nagoya Station Building. Nagoya lies midway between Tokyo and Osaka, at the center of the Shinkansen "bullet train" network. As a result, our consultants have ready access to all parts of the country.

Many important manufacturing industries, including automotive, electronics, heavy industry, ceramics, and aerospace are based in the region, and industrial productivity indices have been tops in the nation for more than 20 years. Nagoya is also the center of the country's furniture and textile industries. Because many of these firms have achieved the top share in Japan or even globally in their domain, the Nagoya region enjoyed a robust economy even as the rest of the nation was experiencing an economic downturn. In fact, the Nagoya region is responsible for approximately one percent of the world's industrial output.

The city has a rich history of both art and culture dating back to the fifteenth century, when the famous shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, lord of Nagoya Castle, encouraged the growth of cultural arts, including Noh and Kabuki theater, Japanese dance, and flower arrangement. Ceramic, textile, dying, and woodworking industries evolved to meet the needs of these varied art forms. The city's Arimatsu, or "old town" section, is known for shibori, the tie-dying process used for making kimono fabric. Each year, the city plays host to the Seto Festival celebrating Japan's rich tradition in pottery and earthenware.
