We’ve partnered with major government organizations to support—and spark—their transformations. The result: more efficient, more effective, and more innovative ways of working. Here are some examples.
Leading a strategic ERP transformation. A major North American transit operator faced ERP challenges and relied on manual tools. BCG conducted an assessment that catalogued 750+ interfaces and analyzed 180+ processes. The BCG team prioritized 220+ pain points and finalized 80+ decisions. By enhancing automation, data accessibility, and integrated business processes, the team helped accelerate the client’s S/4 transformation.
Building a customer-centric supply chain for a federal agency. A US federal agency was seeking to improve supply chain and logistics support for a key customer. BCG led a multiphase effort to identify performance gaps, establish outcome-based KPIs, pilot high-impact improvements, and hardwire change into the organization. We brought industry-leading public sector and operations expertise to drive over $50 million in value and a step change in customer satisfaction.
Catalyzing state government solutions. The state of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Foundation sought to catalyze new housing development and provide shelter for hundreds of residents displaced by winter shelter closings. BCG worked with multiple stakeholders to source sites and service providers for new shelters. The team also identified policy options that led to seven newly-passed pieces of legislation, including a new $30 million low-income housing tax credit.
Governments that engage in strategic cost optimization can recoup 10% of costs—or more—on a whole-of-government basis using existing tools.
As the government rethinks its approach to digitization, public sector organizations are working in agile and transparent ways to create a better and more flexible technology architecture.
Defense ministries can innovate more effectively with allied countries, companies, and other institutions, provided that they focus on five clear actions.
Higher education needs to incorporate AI in two ways: to support and instruct students, and as part of the curriculum to prepare students to use AI in their work.
