Czech Path to Net Zero

The transition to a greener economy, with the goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, is accelerating in Europe. There is a consensus that the transformation is essential to halt climate change and improve quality of life in the long term. The EU is therefore adopting new policies and regulations, and individual Member States are considering where their transformation will lead. The motivation for doing so is not only to protect the environment, but also to take up new economic activities and improve economic performance.

The current situation presents a unique opportunity to redraw the economic map of Europe. Countries that make the most of this opportunity will be able to develop and export high value-add technologies. In this way, they will accelerate their economic growth and improve the living standards and well-being of their citizens.

This study aims to provide baseline data on projected long-term investments and economic impacts based on a plausible decarbonisation scenario and to develop a discussion on the measures necessary to ensure that the path to carbon neutrality is economically viable for the Czech Republic, including in the context of competition with other countries.
